The Treasury Department has unveiled the design of a new Trump 2026 $1 coin, a commemorative dollar coin honoring the United States’ 250th anniversary.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the coin on Wednesday, saying the U.S. Mint will begin striking the piece as part of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

The New Trump Coin will look like this.

On the front of the coin is a portrait of President Trump and some well-known inscriptions such as:

  • LIBERTY
  • IN GOD WE TRUST
  • 1776–2026

On the reverse side is the Great Seal of the United States with a special “250” emblem in the shield to mark America’s semiquincentennial celebration.

When Will the Coin Be Available?

The Treasury officials say the coin is being minted at the Philadelphia Mint.

Collectors will have access to the coin in both rolls and bags in Fall 2026, but the exact release date is yet to be determined.

The Treasury Department said more information about “pricing, ordering procedures, and availability will be published nearer to launch.

Is the Coin Actually Made of Gold?

However, Treasury officials explained that the goldish coin is not made of precious metals.

It is instead marketed as a collectible commemorative coin, and not a bullion coin, although it is a non-precious-metal coin with a gold-like finish.

How does a living president get on a U.S. Coin?

The announcement immediately raised eyebrows, as previously, federal law kept living people off the U.S. coinage.

According to Treasury officials, its lawyers determined that the design is legal under existing law, granted under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020.

Special designs for the 250th anniversary of the nation can be issued under the law.

It’s not the first time that a sitting president appeared on a coin.

Treasury also cited a precedent from history.

While President Calvin Coolidge was in office, he was featured on a commemorative half dollar in 1926, marking the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The officials at the Treasury said that was the first time they knew of a sitting U.S. president appearing on American official coinage.

Growing Interest Among Collectors

The announcement has so far attracted a lot of interest from coin collectors, history buffs, and supporters who want to have their hands on a part of the country’s 250th birthday celebration.

There is a likelihood that collectors will eagerly await future news releases by the U.S. Mint on availability and ordering dates for limited commemorative releases, as they tend to have high demand.

With the United States facing its historic semiquincentennial milestone in 2026, the new Trump-themed dollar coin is sure to be one of the most discussed collectibles of the milestone.
