Jessica Chastain is returning to the horror genre with Other Mommy, a new psychological horror film from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The studio released the first official trailer on Tuesday, offering a first look at the unsettling story ahead of its theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
The trailer has also been playing exclusively before screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

What is ‘Other Mommy’ about?
Other Mommy follows Bela, an 8-year-old girl dealing with tension at home when a mysterious entity begins emerging from her closet. The sinister figure, whom Bela calls “Other Mommy,” takes the appearance of her mother and gradually becomes a growing threat to the family.
As the trailer progresses, Bela struggles to tell whether she’s speaking to her real mother or the frightening doppelganger.
According to the official synopsis:
“Bela, an 8-year-old girl living in a home with marital problems, confronts a sinister entity that comes out of her closet. The presence, who she calls ‘Other Mommy,’ becomes increasingly threatening to her and her family.”
Cast and crew
Jessica Chastain stars as Ursula while Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bela. The cast also includes Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen.
The film is directed by Rob Savage, known for Host and The Boogeyman, from a screenplay by Nathan Elston. It adapts the bestselling novel Incidents Around the House.
Production is led by James Wan, Michael Clear and Judson Scott for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Rob Savage, Josh Malerman and Ryan Lewis serving as executive producers.

Although widely known for her dramatic roles, Chastain has appeared in several acclaimed horror films throughout her career, including Mama, Crimson Peak, It: Chapter Two, and Take Shelter.
Other Mommy marks her latest return to the genre and reunites her with a supernatural horror story centered on psychological fear.
