Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered a historic opening at the box office, earning an estimated $360 million in North America during its debut weekend and setting a new domestic opening weekend record.
According to revised studio estimates reported by multiple Hollywood trade publications, the latest Marvel and Sony release surpassed the previous record of $357 million, which was set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
The updated figure also exceeded early weekend projections, which had estimated the film would finish with approximately $355 million domestically.
Worldwide Opening Nears $1 Billion
The film also posted strong results internationally, collecting an estimated $573 million overseas. Combined with its domestic performance, Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to an estimated $932 million worldwide.
That total ranks as the second-largest global opening weekend in box office history, trailing only Avengers: Endgame, which debuted with approximately $1.22 billion worldwide in 2019.
Film Outperforms Industry Forecasts
The record-setting debut came well above industry expectations. Prior to release, Boxoffice Pro projected an opening weekend between $280 million and $300 million, a range it described as an optimistic forecast.
The movie has also received a strong response from audiences and critics. At the time of publication, it holds a 90% critics score and a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an “A” CinemaScore, indicating positive audience reception.
More Records During Opening Weekend
The film had already made history before the weekend concluded. It earned an estimated $168 million on Friday, setting a new record for the biggest single-day domestic box office performance and surpassing the previous mark established by Avengers: Endgame.
Saturday added another estimated $101.5 million, helping push the film to its record-breaking weekend total.
The opening also marks the largest domestic debut in Sony Pictures’ history, while giving Marvel Studios another entry among the biggest worldwide opening weekends ever recorded.
The Odyssey Continues Strong Run
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey finished second at the domestic box office during its third weekend, earning an estimated $51 million.
The film’s continued success helped produce one of the strongest weekends in theater history. According to Variety, domestic theaters generated more than $425 million in combined ticket sales over the weekend, setting a new record for the highest-grossing weekend at the North American box office.
