A video has been released of Russia’s powerful FAB-3000 Glide Bomb attack on the Ukrainian town.
Russia has released a video that appears to depict one of its FAB-3000 glide bombs hitting the Ukrainian frontline town of Orikhiv, as the conflict continues.
The short clip, which was released by the Ministry of Defense of Russia, shows a large explosion accompanied by a clearly visible shock wave and dense columns of black smoke rising above the site of the explosion. There was a large explosion, as shown in the video.

In the clip, the pilot can be heard bragging “it’s hard to imagine a target that would not be destroyed by an aerial bomb of this size.”
Russian authorities claimed that the strike aimed at attacking Ukrainian military sites. According to Ukrainian media, however, the bomb fell in a residential area of Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region town of Orikhiv.
The population of Orikhiv was almost 14,000 people before the war, and it is regularly attacked because of its proximity to the front line.
“What is the FAB-3000 Glide Bomb?”
The FAB-3000 is an aerial bomb, developed by the Soviet Union, with a weight of about three metric tons and a payload of about 1400 kilograms of explosives.
The weapon had been introduced by the Soviet Union and had not been seen in action on battlefield since the Soviet-Afghan War in the 80s.
The bomb was first used in the Ukraine conflict in 2022 as an unguided “dumb bomb”, but was then reintroduced to the conflict in 2024 in significant numbers.
In recent years, Russia has upgraded the FAB-3000 to include glide and guidance kits, making the bomb more capable of hitting its target from aircraft after being dropped.
The improved version is said to be able to be dropped from the Su-34 fighter-bomber, one of Russia’s main tactical strike aircraft.
Such changes make it possible to drop the bomb at a longer distance and at a lower risk to Ukrainian air defense systems.
In 2022 the FAB-3000 was first reported in combat use against the Azovstal steel plant during the siege of the city of Mariupol.
It has been tracked by military experts ever since, and as Russia is embarking on a new strategy of using large glide bombs to strike positions close to the front lines, it is becoming more and more important.
The recent video highlights the increasing use of long-range air firearms in the conflict as Russia and Ukraine continue to point fingers at each other for the gains on the battlefield and the loss of civilians.
