The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of Remedy Entertainment’s Control won’t make their previously scheduled holiday 2020 release windows. The developer announced Friday that Control Ultimate Edition is now expected to arrive on next-generation consoles sometime in early 2021.

Remedy announced the delay on Twitter, saying, “We want the final quality of the game to be awesome, and so we need a bit more time to work on it. Thank you for your understanding and patience!”

An update from the development team: Control Ultimate Edition will arrive on next generation platforms early 2021.

We want the final quality of the game to be awesome, and so we need a bit more time to work on it. Thank you for your understanding and patience!

Remedy announced Control Ultimate Edition in August, and released the title, which includes the main game and The Foundation and AWE expansions, in September for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions were planned for “end of 2020,” according to Remedy and publisher 505 Games.

Control Ultimate Edition will be a free upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X for players who own the same edition on PS4 or Xbox One, respectively. However, owners of the original release of Control have no option to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition of the game, a contentious decision by the game’s publisher.
