Valve’s Steam Machine is nearing its arrival.
The new PC-console hybrid will make PC gaming more accessible and provide a gaming experience that will be closer to playing on a console. But it won’t be as easy as picking one up at the store when it launches.
The Steam Machine release date is not known yet, but with the first batch scheduled to roll out soon, here’s what you need to know about the Steam reservation process.
The official release date for Steam Machine?
Valve is claiming the initial Steam Machines will ship on June 29, 2026.
Prospective buyers have a limited amount of time to opt for a system at launch since the company only announced pricing and bundles on June 22.
Steam Machines will not be sold in the traditional retail outlets. Instead, Valve is using a reservation-based ordering system.
Everyone who wants to buy a Steam Machine on the date of its release will need to register their interest before 10 a.m. PT on June 25.
After the registration period ends, Valve will perform a single randomisation process to decide on the order of reservations and waitlist placements.
Once the randomisation is done, users will be in two groups:
- Reservation Queue
- Waitlist
If someone registers late, they will be added to the waitlist at the back.
What is the situation if you are in the Reservation Queue?
If selected for the Reservation Queue, a Steam Machine will be reserved in your name.
Once the units are available, Valve will reach out to let you know they are available for purchase. The first shipments are planned to start rolling out on June 29, and more are planned to ship as inventory becomes available.
You don’t need to be on the reservation list to get your system to ship; it just means that your system will get to be purchased first over those on the wait list.
What if You are on the Waitlist?
Players on the waitlist will have to wait for more inventory to become available.
Valve claims Steam Machines will be produced more slowly during the launch as components are expensive.
The reservation system process might be frustrating to some buyers, but according to Valve, the aim of the process is to diminish the effect of bots and scalpers.
If you wish to buy a Steam Machine on the first day, follow these instructions:
- Go to the Steam Machine reservation page.
- Log in to your Steam account.
- Select the bundle you want from the 4 options available.
- Please verify that you have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions.
- Click on the “Join the List” button.
After taking those steps, there’s only one thing left: to wait for the results of the reservations from Valve. Only a few more of these will be available for launch.
The demand will be high and production limited, so not every participant who joins the reservation system will have an opportunity to purchase at launch day.
Interested customers have until June 25 to join the reservation list, giving them a shot at ordering Valve’s new gaming PCs.
The Steam Machine’s first shipments are expected to start on June 29.
