Cristiano Ronaldo Still Has That Magical Touch
Okay, I know what you’re thinking – Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t score in Portugal’s Euro 2024 opener against Czechia. At 39 years old, the goals are going to dry up at some point, right? Well, not so fast my friends.
While the net didn’t bulge for CR7 this time, the stats show he was absolutely pulling the strings out there. Two chances were created, five shots, and a perfect 22/22 passing. The man was basically running the show.
Sure, the winning goal came off the foot of young sub-Francisco Conceicao.
But do you really think Portugal would have created those late chances without Ronaldo probing and picking apart that stubborn Czech defense?
He hit the post at one point too before Diogo Jota tucked home the rebound, only for VAR to harshly rule it out for offside.
This is the thing about Ronaldo at this stage of his career. The goalscoring records keep piling up, but his all-around game is just as invaluable. The vision, the passing, the relentless work rate to drag his team to victories – it’s all still there.
The Twitter folk loved it too. People call him an “underrated playmaker” and “the best player for Portugal.” Runaway stuff like “best in the world” as well. I mean, are we surprised at this point?
For years, the critics have been queueing up to stick a fork in Ronaldo. “He’s too old” they’ll say, or “one-dimensional” as if he hasn’t been an all-round threat for decades. And every time, he just keeps on blazing a trail.
So yeah, no goal this time. But also a masterclass in forward play that creator types half his age would be proud of. The man is eternal, pure and simple. You just got Ronaldo’d again, Europe.
