Elon Musk ridicules Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she complains about the $8 price for blue tick
Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez voiced her displeasure with the cost of Twitter verification in a tweet on Tuesday, prompting Twitter CEO Elon Musk to respond that evening.
Ocasio-Cortez posted a statement on her page implying that Musk “tries to sell” the idea of “free speech” when, in reality, it is a “subscription plan.”
In a tweet sent on Tuesday night, Ocasio-Cortez ridiculed Musk’s paid plan and implied that he was trying to trick Twitter users into thinking that paying for free speech is necessary.
Ocasio-Cortez joked on Twitter that a millionaire was trying to convince people that “free speech” was actually a $8/month subscription package.
Musk tweeted back at Ocasio-Cortez on Wednesday, saying, “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8.” Soon later, Musk made the tweet a permanent fixture on his page.
The New York congressman and Musk had had an altercation in what is now Musk’s home territory before.
A tweet she posted earlier this year read as follows: “Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him out to dinner and made him feel special.”
“Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy,” Musk said in response.
Although in her original tweet she claimed to be referring to Zuckerberg, her real beef was with the standard leftist argument in support of targeting Musk.
Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the first liberal to criticise Musk for his “radical” idea of using Twitter as a venue for people to discuss ideas, and she won’t be the last.
