Metagross is one of the game’s most potent steel and psychic-type competitive options. This Pokemon has been a popular pick in PvP content since its release in February 2018, thanks to its strong stat make-up, a large list of resistances, and powerful move pool.

Best Moves for Metagross in Pokemon GO
As a steel and psychic-type, Metagross is vulnerable to ground, ghost, fire, and dark types. It has a high resistance to normal, flying, rock, steel, grass, ice, dragon, and fairy kinds, as well as a double resistance to poison and psychic types.

The finest Metagross moveset combines the rapid move Bullet Punch with the charged move Meteor Mash. The quick move Zen Headbutt and the charged move Psychic are also suitable replacements.
Fortunately, Metagross’ limited quick move pool simplifies matters. Zen Headbutt and Bullet Punch both benefit from Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB) and operate equally well in practise. Bullet Punch creates more energy per second (EPS) than Zen Headbutt (9), but Zen Headbutt delivers more damage (13 versus Bullet Punch’s 12).
We err on the side of energy over damage to encourage more uses of the Pokemon’s charged move, but the difference between the two is so minor that it doesn’t make a difference.
Metagross’ charged move pool, on the other hand, only has six moves. Only three of these, however, use STAB: Psychic, Flash Cannon, and the Elite TM move Meteor Mash. Because Flash Cannon is the weakest of the three, Meteor Mash and Psychic are fighting for the top slot. Unfortunately for Psychic, Meteor Mash outperforms it as an Elite TM move.
Meteor Mash has a DPS output of 46 and an energy cost of 19 per throw. Psychic has a DPS of 38 and uses 18 energy per cast. The difference between Metagross’ charged moves, like its fast moves, is exceedingly little. Meteor Mash is preferred over Psychic, although if trainers are unable to obtain it, Psychic will suffice.
