Man detained on suspicion of rape and the murder of a teen in Putnam County
The suspected rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl near Cookeville led to the arrest of a man on Wednesday night.
After receiving a missing person complaint on Wednesday for 15-year-old Olivia Daryl Taylor, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office spent the night looking for the girl. The Putnam County Road Department discovered Taylor’s body in a “wooded area east of Cookeville” at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Deputy Sheriff Eddie Farris of Putnam County has stated that Taylor’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Charles “Chuck” Carter, 63, is a suspect in the killing of a 15-year-old girl and has been charged with one count of aggravated statutory rape.
The body of the victim is being sent to the Nashville medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
As of right now, Carter is a detainee at the Putnam County Jail. Despite being arrested on a statutory rape accusation and initially being held on $50,000 bond, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced on their Facebook page on Thursday night that Carter is now being held without bond.
