How To Tame & Befriend Any Dogs in Zelda Tears of The Kingdom

In this guide, we will discuss how to tame & befriend any dogs in Zelda Tears of The Kingdom. Dogs make a reappearance in Zelda: TOTK, as they have in nearly every Zelda game. Unfortunately, in Tears of the Kingdom, you won’t be able to physically pet or tame any dogs. You may be looking forward to the ability to tame or pet dogs in BOTW.

You may still be pals with the nice lads of Hyrule. You can earn their confidence and follow them to Treasure in a manner similar to that of the first Zelda game. But how can one make friends with and tame Hyrule’s canine inhabitants? If you want to know more about how to touch, befriend, and feed dogs in TOTK, check out our guide.

How to Befriend & Pet Dogs

There are primarily two ways to make friends with dogs in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and pet them. When you come across these free-range creatures, you have the option of either feeding them or posing for pictures with them.

Whether a self-portrait or a formal portrait, it makes no difference. You can keep their tails wagging by keeping their companionship. The dogs are typically located around various Stables all across Hyrule.

However, the game will not keep track of your feeding goodies if you travel outside of an area to perform things like produce materials or prepare meals. If so, feed the dog(s) again and start the process over. Visit every Stable in TOTK to find them, as they are available there.

Dogs have no particular dietary preferences, so feel free to give them everything you like (except fish). If you drop a fed Fish, they won’t eat it. Feeding them expensive Raw Prime Meat might help you gain their confidence more quickly.

If you want to watch them flock to you, offer them some raw meat. If a dog doesn’t seem interested but keeps begging for more, it’s usually because it’s starving.

In Tears of the Kingdom, here is how you may provide for the canines:

  • When you locate a Dog, speak with it and then check your inventory.
  • To access your Inventory, hit the plus sign (+) button.
  • Next, use the L or R button to get to the Food section.
  • Pick something to eat and examine it closely.
  • Place the raw meat or bird near them and drop it.
  • After they’ve had their fill of sweets, they’ll show you the way to the treasure.
  • The wealth can now be yours if you only follow the dog.

Once you’ve given a dog four different kinds of food, it will usually bring you to the prize. The treasure will be buried quite deeply, so you’ll need the Ultrahand ability to get it.
