Ford recalls 2.9 million cars because they may move while parked

2.9 million cars, including the Escape and the Fusion, are being recalled by Ford Motor Co. due to an issue that might cause the vehicle to roll even when the driver has applied the parking brake.

According to the safety inspectors, the recalled vehicles include the Escape produced between 2013 and 2019, the C-Max produced between 2013 and 2018, the Fusion produced between 2013 and 2016, the Transit Connect produced between 2013 and 2021, and the Edge produced between 2015 and 2018.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall because of a potential issue with a bushing that connects the shift cable to the transmission.

Ford is recalling almost 3 million cars worldwide due to a fault that might cause the vehicle to roll even when the driver has engaged the parking brake.

Vehicles manufactured in the years 2013 through 2019 for the Escape, 2013 through 2018 for the C-Max, 2013 through 2016 for the Fusion, 2013 through 2021 for the Transit Connect, and 2015 through 2018 for the Edge are all included in the recall.

According to a recall notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the bushing that joins the shift cable to the transmission might deteriorate or come loose.

According to documents submitted to NHTSA, Ford has received four reports alleging injury and six instances of property damage that may be related to the issue.

Based on the data provided, about 1.7 million Escapes are included in the over 2.9 million vehicles that may be impacted. The Edge, with its around 509,400 members, is the second largest.

According to the paperwork, Ford will be adding a protective cover and replacing the bushing at no cost to the customer. Starting on June 27, the corporation will begin mailing notices, which will provide a toll-free number for customers to contact with any questions.
