Wargaming’s free-to-play combat MMO, World of Tanks, is leaning hard into Halloween this year by collaborating with two of the original creators of the Silent Hill series: artist and monster designer Masahiro Ito and musician Akira Yamaoka. While we sit on our hands waiting for that long-rumored Silent Hill reboot, or for Konami to do something (anything!) with the franchise, World of Tanks is our current best option for otherworldly horror vibes.
World of Tanks’ Halloween event includes a PvE cooperative mode in which players will battle “armored monster tanks of a mysterious origin” as a team of five. In the mysterious town of Mirny-13, players will need to battle waves of enemy forces, collect a resource called Mirium, and deliver it to the structure known as Magnus. Surviving players will then be transported to a parallel dimension, where an increasingly thick fog will envelop the town.
The event will include new 3D skins that players can purchase, which have been designed by Masahiro Ito, the creator of Silent Hill’s iconic Pyramid Head. Those tank skins are rusted, smothered in barbed wire, and otherwise pretty Silent Hill-y. Akira Yamaoka, responsible for the Silent Hill series’ signature soundtracks, wrote a “a haunting ambient track” that plays in the event hangar, according to Wargaming.
A more detailed breakdown of World of Tanks’ Halloween event, which runs from Oct. 26 through Nov. 9, can be seen in the video below.
