Tekken 8 Release Gameplay Trailer and Story
Following a tease last month, Tekken 8 has now been publicly unveiled.
A few of its fighters engaged in a fierce battle in the rain in an in-engine teaser shown at Sony’s most recent State of Play. Though only confirmed for PlayStation 5 at the showcase, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam have now been added as additional platforms.
The trailer may have the appearance of a pre-rendered cinematic, but as game designer Katsuhiro Harada explains in a PlayStation blog post, it actually showcases gameplay footage generated in real-time on PlayStation 5. However, Harada claims that the video was obtained from a build of Tekken 8’s story mode, which may or may not be actual gameplay.
According to Harada, “The Tekken series has always been known for the dramatic pre-rendered movies from its story mode,” and the dynamic waves and tornadoes in the background will be actual effects employed in stages during fights.
There were rumours about a new Tekken game since last month’s EVO, but this is the first official announcement of the title. For the first time since 2017’s Tekken 7, which we praised as “a hallmark fighting game that’s both accessible and highly technical, with great customization options,” a new mainstream Tekken game is on the horizon.
