SKATE 4 is releasing sooner than what you expected however I didn’t think I’d hear about Skate 4 for a long time. Even though EA said the fisheye street shredder was getting a new look in 2020, they didn’t say how long it would be before they started a new studio to make the game again.
It’s the kind of thing I thought would be a long time before I heard any concrete news about it. But, based on EA’s recent earnings call, we may get our skates on Skate sooner than we thought we would.
During EA’s Q3 2022 earnings call (via TweakTown), CEO Andrew Wilson made a reference to Skate when he talked about user-generated content. He said that it would be important to the experience of the skateboard revival, which is supposedly coming “soon.”
He said: “It’s at the heart of modes like FIFA Ultimate, even Madden Ultimate Team, to the heart of Skate, which we’ll be releasing soon.” “So this idea of UGC, or user-generated content, is just another way for me to have fun with my friends while we’re watching the best entertainment in the world. So I think that’s going to be a very important part of our future, as well.”
Wilson’s definition of “soon” will have to wait until we see what it turns out to be. Then maybe we’ll start to learn more about Skate in the coming months. But there are a lot of weird and fun skateboarding games to play while you wait, like next week’s OlliOlli World.
