Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Find Water Stones

The department store in Celadon City was where players could get the majority of their Evolution Stones in the first generation of Pokemon games. However, since Generation 2, Evolution Stones can usually only be acquired through exploring the games’ landscapes, making it much more difficult to evolve specific Pokemon. Thankfully, because the Grand Underground is included, this isn’t a major issue with Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

Unlike other recent Pokemon games where the quantity of Evolution Stones is limited, players in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl can generally farm as many of these magical stones as they require. Most varieties of Evolution Stones, including Water Stones, are required to develop five different water-type Pokemon in the Generation 4 remakes.

Where to Find a Water Stone in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players can obtain a Water Stone from a variety of locations, the first of which being Route 213. One can be found in the shallow water on the route’s extreme east side, directly north of two swimmers. There’s another one concealed in one of the chambers inside the Solaceon Ruins and another on the island in the middle of Route 230 for those who need more.

Many players, rather than searching for Water Stones in the field, will instead dig for them in the Grand Underground. Although they aren’t as plentiful as Thunder and Fire Stones, players should still be able to amass a sizable stash while looking for the Mysterious Shards required to unlock everything in Ramanas Park, the post-game area.

Pokemon That Evolve Using a Water Stone in Brilliant Diamond Diamond & Shining Pearl

  • Poliwhirl -> Poliwrath
  • Shellder -> Cloyster
  • Staryu -> Starmie
  • Eevee -> Vaporeon
  • Lombre -> Ludicolo

Poliwhirl is the first of five Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to evolve with a Water Stone. The gen 1 water type may be found in the Grand Underground as well as Routes 225, 227, and 228. Shellder can also be found underground, at the Fuego Ironworks factory, and on Route 205. Eevee is given to players once they’ve acquired the National Dex, whereas Staryu and Lombre are both limited to the Grand Underground.
