Apple has just announced the very first public beta of iOS 27 – and that means iPhone users are getting a head start on the next major software update months before it’s officially available for all.

The public beta comes after a series of developer beta versions, and adds new AI capabilities and enhancements to Siri, parental controls improvements, photo editing enhancements, and performance optimizations.

You need to know all about downloading iOS 27, which devices it supports, new features, and whether to install it right now.

Who Can Download iOS 27 Public Beta?

The iOS 27 public beta is offered free of charge via Apple’s Beta Software Program.

The devices that can install the beta are all iPhones that are supported by the iOS 26 operating system, including all iPhone 11s and later.

How to Download iOS 27 Public Beta

To install the public beta:

  • Join the Apple free Beta Software Program.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings. On your iPhone, go to the Settings app.
  • Go to General > Software Update.
  • Tap Beta Updates.
  • Choose iOS 27 Public beta.
  • Once you move back to the previous screen, you will see the download link for the update, click on it.

Restarting your iPhone will often refresh the available update normally, if you do not see the public beta option.

What’s New in iOS 27?

Apple’s new software pays special attention to artificial intelligence as well as enhancing the user interface, experience, and performance.

The largest additions are:

  • New and improved AI-powered Siri, in a dedicated app.
  • New AI photo editing tools that can now expand and enhance photos.
  • Screen Time has enhanced parental controls.
  • Improved Safari organization and tab management.
  • Enhanced Shortcuts automation.
  • Improvements to Image Playground and other Apple Intelligence capabilities.
  • Better performance and stability of the system.

Users who have tried the developer builds have noted that iOS 27 is smoother than in earlier developer builds.

Should You Install the Public Beta?

Although Apple labels this as a public beta, it is still unfinished software.

Installing beta software can introduce bugs, app compatibility issues, reduced battery life, or unexpected crashes.

If you’re using your iPhone as your main device for work, school, and day-to-day tasks, then it may just be better to wait for the official release.

For those who like to try out new features right off the bat, and who do not mind some issues in the meantime, the public beta can be good.

When Will the Final Version Be Released?

Apple is likely to continue to make more beta versions throughout the summer.

With Apple’s usual release timing, the Release Candidate build should be available soon after the company’s September iPhone launch event.

The final public version of iOS 27 is widely expected to arrive in mid-September, alongside Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup.

What’s Next?

There are more beta versions to come that will further enhance the performance, fix bugs, and polish new features before the official launch.

For now, the public beta will provide an early preview of Apple’s upcoming iPhone operating system, allowing users to discover the AI-powered enhancements before the official release.
