Fire Emblem Engage: Release Date, Story, Gameplay Trailer and More

Do battle for Elios, and protect it from the same threat that devastated it a millennium ago. Read on to find out when Fire Emblem Engage will be available, how it will play, and what kind of story it will have.

On January 20, 2023, Fire Emblem Engage will launch for the Nintendo Switch.

    Gameplay of Fire Emblem Engage

Fire Emblem Engage is a tactical role-playing game in the tradition of its predecessors in the Fire Emblem series. Here, the player is not in charge of just one personality, but of a little army. The player’s characters can move and attack inside a certain area. Players and opponents take turns directing their forces across a grid-based playing field. When their troops are within striking distance, they can launch an attack and, perhaps, win the battle.

Weapons available to various types of units vary. Although it was cut from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the teaser suggests that the Weapon Triangle from previous games may return. Essentially, the Weapon Triangle is the equivalent of Rock, Paper, Scissors in this game (Sword beats Axe beats Spear beats Sword). Weapons with an advantage do more damage and hit more accurately, while those with a deficit do less damage and miss more often. Magic features a comparable system, but the clip does not say whether or not it would be the same as in the prior games.

It appears that the option to equip Emblems on characters is Fire Emblem Engage’s main selling point. Emblems are the personifications of past Fire Emblem game characters, with the trailer featuring Marth, Sigurd, and Celica. The player receives bonuses to their skills, damage, and more when they equip certain Emblems. Using the “Engage” action, players can become one with their Emblem and unleash devastating special assaults. The more you use these Emblems, the closer you will become with them.

Exploring one’s base of operations and performing a variety of little tasks to enhance it is an option, much like in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

    Story of Fire Emblem Engage

The action of the game takes place on the continent of Elios, a world that was formerly at war with the Fell Dragon. When they used Emblems, heroes from another planet, they were able to imprison the dragon. But after a millennium, the dragon’s seal appears to be breaking. You take on the role of a Divine Dragon (the game lets you pick your preferred gender) that participated in the conflict with the Fell Dragon. Upon awakening after a thousand years of dormancy, you discover a world in need of your assistance. You will have to use the Emblems to assist you battle the Fell Dragon again, this time so that peace can be restored to the region.
