“Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Confirmed is in Development and Revealed will Use RE Engine”

Fans have been waiting for another Dragon’s Dogma entry since the cult hit role-playing game was released in 2012. There have been several ports and a Netflix animated series since then, but no sequel. That has all changed now that Capcom has announced Dragon’s Dogma 2.

During the celebration stream mentioned by Capcom at its recent showcase, director Hideaki Itsuno revealed the game via a T-shirt. There was no gameplay, trailer, or other art associated with the game, so there was only a logo.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has yet to be confirmed, but there has been some evidence that it is in the works

There was no mention of a release date or platform, but it will run on Capcom’s popular RE Engine (which stands for “Reach for the Moon” rather than “Resident Evil”), which has been used for the last four Resident Evil instalments, Monster Hunter Rise, and Devil May Cry 5. Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki, who worked on the first film as art director and lead environment artist, will also be involved in the sequel.

Other details

Dragon’s Dogma 2 hadn’t been confirmed until now, but there was some evidence that it was in the works. The game was mentioned in a leak targeting Capcom in November 2020. That leak also included Street Fighter 6 and the Resident Evil 4 remake, both of which have since been confirmed. Capcom also stated in a recent tweet that it was looking to the future, implying that something was in the works.

This sequel could have also been in the works much sooner. Itsuno told VG24/7 that he was given the option of making Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon’s Dogma 2, and he chose the latter.
