Disgraced Attorney Alex Murdaugh to be charged for the murder of wife and Son
On Tuesday, Alex Murdaugh’s brother verified the rumours that he would be charged this week for the murders of his wife and kid.
Journalist and real crime expert Vicky Ward claimed that on Tuesday, investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) went to the home of John Marvin Murdaugh, Murdaugh’s younger brother, to deliver the news.
After investigating the murders of Alex Murdaugh’s wife and kid, police “told the Murdaugh family that Alex Murdaugh would be charged this week with the murders,” as Ward tweeted.
Officers spent 30 minutes with Murdaugh’s brother to prepare him for the criminal accusations stemming from the tragic double homicide that occurred in June of last year, as his brother later verified to the Post and Courier.
He emphasised that his brother, who is currently in jail on over seventy charges, was the only suspect mentioned by police.
In addition, sources have informed Fitsnews, the local site behind the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast, that charges will be brought to a grand jury on Thursday.
The indictment would be for murder, according to two other people who spoke to The State.
John Marvin Murdaugh told The Post and Courier that the agents briefed the family on Tuesday, but did not reveal the nature of the evidence at that time.
Regardless of what happens, “we want the truth,” the sibling stated on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, SLED representatives would not comment on the rumours.
“SLED’s investigation into the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh is still active and ongoing,” the force told The Post.
“Agents are committed to the integrity of the investigation, thus no additional information from SLED will be provided at this time.”
When Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, 52, and troubled son, Paul, 22, were found shot to death outside their hunting property in Colleton County last June, Murdaugh, a member of one of South Carolina’s most distinguished legal families, was the first person to call 911.
Even before any suspects were named, investigators reassured the public that they were not in danger.
After the fact, in interviews conducted in October, Jim Griffin, Murdaugh’s attorney, revealed that “SLED identified Alex as a person of interest. They’ve never eliminated him as a person of interest.”
He has not been charged with the double homicide, but the investigation into him has uncovered a terrible pattern of financial misdeeds and a hidden drug addiction.
A month after confessing to staging his own shooting as part of a plot to give his son, Buster, $10 million in insurance money, he has been in prison since last October.
