The console is a black Xbox Series S with a flight helmet layered on top of the speaker-like cooling vent. The film’s logo and Tom Cruise’s name are emblazoned on the bottom, and a metallic detail wraps around the entire box below that. The controller that comes with the filmic Xbox tries to simulate the excitement of jumping into a cockpit and having no idea what any of the buttons do. The gauges and switches are just cosmetic and do not interfere with any of the standard functions, but it is a fitting motif for the award. In addition, the winner will receive a pair of Christopher Bates Aviator Sunglasses and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for free.
The newest in a long line of promotional Xbox consoles not only commemorates the debut of Top Gun: Maverick, but also the Top Gun expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This free DLC for Microsoft’s fantastic return to the skies, which was delayed alongside the film last year, puts the F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the original film into the game. While community creators have launched equally fast aircraft into the game in the time it took for the DLC to be published, Top Gun fans will no doubt be pleased to jet around the game’s realistic terrain in Maverick’s hallmark vehicle.
