Americans are making their final plans for Independence Day and America’s 250th birthday celebrations as they make shopping, banking, and travel arrangements before the holiday weekend.

July 4th is a Saturday in 2026, so hours are subject to change; contact your local business or government agency. Several public services and financial markets will temporarily close, while many retail outlets and restaurants will be open.

Here are all the details you need to know about what’s open and closed during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Are Banks Open?

Most major banks and credit unions will be open on Friday, July 3, but some may have shorter hours or close early due to their location.

On Independence Day – Saturday, July 4, Banks will be closed, and are expected to reopen on Monday, July 6.

Please consult with the local branch before visiting.

Is the Stock Market Open?

No.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq will be closed on Friday, July 3 for Independence Day.

Trading will return to normal on Monday, July 6, at 9.30 a.m. ET.

Markets for bonds are also staying closed.

Will USPS Deliver Mail?

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will be running on their regular schedule Friday, July 3 with regular mail pickup and delivery.

It will be a post-holiday Saturday on July 4th and the post offices will be closed with no regular mail service.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service expects to be back to normal operations on Monday, July 6.

Is UPS Open?

Yes.

Friday, July 3, is expected to be a normal day for UPS pickup and delivery.

UPS will not be operating a regular UPS Pickup/Delivery service on Saturday, July 4, and UPS Store facilities are likely to be closed on the holiday.

Is FedEx Open?

FedEx will continue to service on Friday, July 3, with some services and retail locations possibly having different operating times based on location.

FedEx has announced that it will not be taking out of business or delivering any regular services on Saturday, July 4, and some retail stores will be closed or have adjusted hours.

The schedule is subject to local availability and is encouraged to check before travel.

Are Government Offices Open?

Independence Day is celebrated with closed Federal offices, post offices, and many government buildings.

The schedules used by DMV differ from state to state.

Some states will have DMV offices open on Friday, and some will be closed early or during the weekend. Motorists should check their state’s DMV website before making plans.

Grocery Stores Open on July 4

Most grocery chains will welcome customers on Independence Day, although some locations may have reduced hours.

Restaurants Open on July 4

Many popular restaurant chains will continue serving customers during the holiday.

Restaurants expected to remain open include:
