There are two government payments that will reach some Social Security recipients in July 2026, but they don’t qualify as benefits or bonuses. The extra payment does not impact those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), but rather is due to the payment calendar of the Social Security Administration.
Why Two SSI Payments in July?
Generally, those who are eligible to receive SSI benefits will be paid their regular monthly benefit on Wednesday, July 1.
Another payment is due on Friday, July 31. Both the deposits are paid in July, but the second is the benefit for August. The Social Security Administration pays SSI on the first day of the month. If the first is a weekend or a federal holiday, then the payments are made on the last business day.
As August 1, 2026, is a Saturday, August’s SSI payment will be issued on July 31, 2026. This means that there will be no SSI payment in August.
Who are the two people who will receive two payments?
The two-payment schedule is for those who are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
This includes eligible:
- Older adults
- People with disabilities
People who have low income and resources and are eligible for the federal program
Some of the beneficiaries are paid SSI in addition to their regular Social Security benefits. But the July double payment is only the SSI calendar double payment; the regular payment calendar remains unaffected. The regular Social Security Payments will not change.
Retirement, survivor, and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits remain on their usual monthly payment schedule.
Those who began collecting Social Security payments before May 1997 (or people who receive Social Security payments plus SSI) usually get their monthly Social Security payment on the third day of the month.
Most other beneficiaries will be paid based on their date of birth.
The July 2026 payment schedule is:
The July 2026 payment schedule is:
July 8 – Birth dates from the 1st through the 10th
July 15 – Birth dates from the 11th through the 20th
July 22 – Birth dates from the 21st through the 31st
Why It Matters
It may feel to you like you’ve got a second SSI payment in a single month, but it’s not.
The deposit made on July 31 is just early July’s benefit, due to the weekend calendar.
If you are receiving SSI for things like housing, food, utilities, and health care, then it’s important to plan carefully as there won’t be another SSI payment in August.
The bottom line for July 2026 is simple: SSI recipients who qualify for it will receive two payments during that month, but that won’t be an extra payment; it will be their regular monthly benefit.
This scheduling change takes place periodically over the years when the first day of a month is a weekend or a federal holiday.
