The world’s oldest living dog is 21 years old from Florida
The world’s oldest dog, a furry Floridian, has broke previous record.
On March 16, a Chihuahua, named “TobyKeith,” achieved the distinction at 21 years and 66 days old. This breed’s average lifespan is between 12 to 18 years, thus he lived much longer than that.
TobyKeith is currently living over in Greenacres, Florida, located in Palm Beach County. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, he was born on January 9th, 2001. His pet parent, Gisela Shore, got him from an animal shelter when he was just a few months old.
“I was a volunteer at Peggy Adams Animal Rescue and one of the employees told me about an elderly couple trying to surrender a puppy because they could not take care of him any longer,” Gisela told GWR. “I met with the elderly couple, and I was introduced to a tiny tan Chihuahua. They had named him Peanut Butter. I later changed his name to TobyKeith.”
They’ve been together for more than two decades. In the wake of TobyKeith’s announcement as the oldest dog in the world, Gisela said her family was overjoyed, but they weren’t the only ones.
TobyKeith was treated with a bath, he got his nail cut and went on a car ride. Even though Gisela and her oldest pup are on their own, they aren’t the only ones. Gisela also has two more dogs and two parrots.
His regular day starts about 6:30 a.m. to head outside before getting breakfast. His preferred food item is a piece of sliced turkey. For the rest of his day, he goes on brief walks or lays next to Gisela’s workstation.
TobyKeith indeed have a cardiac problem, but the Guinness World Records didn’t mention any further. Gisela believes having a nutritious diet and regular exercise helps to maintain TobyKeith’s health.
An Australian cattle-dog named “Bluey,” died in 1939 at the age of 29 according to GWR, who also claims to have the oldest dog known.
