The Karabiner 98 sniper rifle is an excellent weapon to have in Sniper Elite 5. To unlock the Kar98, just murder a target in a unique manner. The following instructions will teach you how.
Unlocking Kar98 in Sniper Elite 5
The Kar98 can be obtained during the second objective of Sniper Elite 5, Occupied Residence. Inside the chateau, you’ll be given a Kill Challenge to assassinate Friedrich Kummler. You’ll get the Kar98 as a prize for doing so.
You must, however, eliminate your target by falling a chandelier on him. That is the Kill Challenge requirement. You will not be able to unlock the Kar98 until you do so.
When you enter the chateau, go to the ballroom. Friedrich and his soldiers will be on the move. Wait for him to go to the middle of the ballroom, just under the chandelier.
You now have two alternatives. You may either sneak up to the second story and operate a switch to drop the chandelier, crushing Friedrich, or shoot the chandelier’s cord, allowing it to fall.
You’ll be able to access the Kar98 after the chandelier falls and Friedrich is no longer there.
The Bug that disabled unlocking Kar98
At launch, there was a problem that prevented players from unlocking the Kar98 even after finishing the assignment in Sniper Elite 5. That problem has subsequently been resolved.
If you are still unable to unlock the Kar98, restart your game to hopefully resolve the issue.
Another possibility is that you are doing everything incorrectly. Remember to shoot the chandelier chain rather than the crank wheel.
