Seeing an Ant’s Face Up Close Scares the Internet
On Friday, the winners of the Nikon 2022 Photomicrography Competition were announced. It can identify the top microscopy images. A close-up of an ant’s face was taken by Dr. Eugenijus Kavaliauskas and entered into the competition. Images of Distinction featured the photograph. There are a number of stunning images like this one that investigate the microscopic world. A photograph of the embryonic hand of a Madagascar big day gecko “Grigorii Timin (@GrigoriyTimin) and Dr Michel Milinkovitch were the first-place winners of Nikon’s Small World 2022 photomicrography competition for their photography of not just any hand — but an embryonic hand of a Madagascar giant gecko.” according to a tweet from LX News that was shared by Nikon Small World.
Web users were shocked by the ant’s face
The terrifying ant image was magnified five times using a microscope. The eyes were round and purple, and the antennae jutted out of the brown head. The ant is equipped with golden fangs and a sinister grin. One Twitter user said, “No wonder those bites itch so damn much” adding, “I will never sleep again” As Wired tweeted and Nikon retweeted, “This hellish-looking thing is real, and you’ve actually seen it before: This is what an ant looks like up close.”
