Police have apprehended the suspect in the hospital shooting, and two officers have been injured
According to police, a person, reportedly a male nursing assistant, was shot inside a hospital in Philadelphia early Monday morning, the suspect fled the scene, and two officers and the suspect were injured in a shootout.
The first shooting occurred shortly after midnight inside Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, according to local television stations. The suspect, who was thought to be the victim’s coworker, then fled the scene, prompting law enforcement to launch a manhunt.
A short time later, authorities apprehended the suspect, and a shootout took place. According to police, two officers were shot and the suspect was injured. The suspect was then apprehended. The officers’ injuries were not life-threatening.
According to WPVI-TV, the person shot at the hospital was later pronounced dead.
The Associated Press was unable to reach a hospital spokesperson for comment immediately.
It was not clear what prompted the shooting.
