Northeast Nebraska under thunderstorms and tornado warnings
The northeastern part of Nebraska is seeing severe thunderstorms and tornado watches at the same time as the rest of the state is dealing with wildfires.
Tornado watches were issued for Madison, Wayne, Pierce, Antelope, Cedar, Boone, and Stanton Counties until 6:15 p.m. CT. Counties surrounding Cedar, Dakota, and Dixon were also under severe thunderstorm watches. The time for hearing those warnings has long ago passed.
Just before 6:00 p.m. CT, weather spotters confirmed a tornado had touched down near Battle Creek.
Observers in the weather have also confirmed rotation over Winside, though there have been no indications of a touchdown as of yet.
There are currently red flag warnings in effect for 69 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.
