If you don’t know anyone who plays golf, it can feel difficult and overwhelming to get started in the sport. We understand it can appear a little daunting from the outside when looking at the fancy-looking clothes and expensive-looking clubs.
But we’re here to tell you that is absolutely not the case, and if you’ve been thinking about jumping into golf as your new hobby, you 100% should! We’ve laid out the first steps you can take to make that leap and get started on what will no doubt become a new lifelong love!
Find a Club
No, not the kind you use to hit the ball with – we’ll get to that later. We’re talking about the type with green space, relaxing atmosphere, friendly members. By far, one of the easiest ways to get into golf is to sign up for a club membership.
By doing this, you’ll have access to a group of people who not only love the sport as much as you do but who have a wealth of knowledge and advice they will no doubt be happy to share with you. If you’ve got burning questions like, “How long does 18 holes of golf take?” You’ll find the answers at a club.
Get the Gear
Now you’ve signed up to a club, we can move on to the other type of club – the kind you play with. You won’t be surprised to hear it, but you can’t exactly play golf without all the equipment. At a minimum, you’ll need a set of clubs, some golf shoes, and a bag.
But once you’ve played a few times, we’re confident you’ll be fully on board with the specific type of attire you often see on the golf court. If you want to impress loved ones, get yourself kitted out in the clothing before you start. After all, there’s a whole area of psychology that talks about how uniforms can set us up with the right mindset.
Make Some Friends
While you can play golf with no one but yourself, why would you? One of the greatest things about golf is that it is a slow, social game. You can play for fun and hang out with your buddies at the same time while getting a little exercise in, too.
And besides, you’re far more likely to stick to a new hobby if you make friends. You’ll look forward to seeing them as much as you’ll look forward to playing the game.
You’ll Be a Regular Golfer In No Time!
So, in three easy steps, you can be on your way to becoming a regular golfer! Find a club, get the gear, and make some friends, and you’ll be well on your way to beating those personal bests you set in your first week playing.
Whether you’ve chosen it as a retirement hobby or you’ve just been trying to find a new way to switch off from the stresses of life, golf is a great sport to choose!
