How to beat Duriel in Diablo 2: Resurrected
The most valuable chambers in Lut Gholein’s magical and sandy region are guarded by one terrifying demon: Duriel, Lord of Pain. Finding and confronting this gigantic demon in the desert is a dangerous task, to say the least. How does one subdue the monarch butterfly insect?
Where?
Duriel was left to guard the Tomb of Tal Rasha by the elder Prime Evils, where Baal corrupted the once-great sorcerer himself. Duriel can be found in Tal Rasha’s Chamber in this burial jail. The Horadric Staff, which you made earlier in the mission, is used to unlock the chamber.
Boss Arena
Many of the boss arenas are confined, but Duriel’s is the most so. When you enter the small chamber, you only have a small square of space to work with, most of which is taken up by Duriel himself. On the plus side, unlike some of his other demon companions, he doesn’t have minions.
Attacks
This demon uses a combination of severe physical attacks and certain important effects to stop the player. He gives off a freezing aura (Holy Freeze), which damages you and reduces your movement speed. He also has a few unique strikes, such as a charged heavy attack that may be used on any adversary outside of his range or a Smite that stuns your character. Duriel is a lot stronger and faster than he appears, therefore he demands a lot more caution than you might think.
Tips on survival
Because of the cramped space and Duriel’s unforgiving attitude, you’ll need a few tricks to help you survive. To begin, keep in mind that, similar to his sister, Andariel, fighting him face to face might be difficult, so try to stay at a distance. This can be accomplished by having a melee mercenary take the damage for you, or by both of you running around and keeping a safe distance from each other. However, keep your distance in mind. After all, his heavy charge is his most powerful solo strike, yet if you stay within his range, he won’t use it. Assassins are great at dealing with him since they can stay out of his direct attack range without having to go too far forward to use his charge attack.
Rejuvenation potions are essential when it comes to consumables. They are the simplest way to survive Duriel’s oppressive attacks, whether you use them all on yourself or give them to your mercenary to help them survive longer. A towel portal scroll is another ingenious use of consumables. It was utilized at the start of the fight so that if you ran out of potions or your mercenary died, you could return to town for a minute to heal up, restock, revive, and return to the fight.
Finally, use as much cold-resistant gear and thawing potions as you can to assist him deal with his cold damage. They won’t stop you from being slowed down by his Holy Freeze, but they will reduce the amount of damage you take. These tools can be game-changing for Duriel because he is a powerful hitter.
