EA Sports released a new gameplay clip for FIFA 22 earlier this week, featuring the game’s new HyperMotion technology as well as a slew of other next-gen features.
The trailer itself was hype, but the gameplay deep dive Pitch Notes released alongside the trailer captured the attention and imagination of many long-time players, providing a comprehensive look at many of the newest features such as changes to the attacking and defending systems, tactical configurations, dribbling and skill moves, and much more.
It’s got people talking, so we’re breaking down each of these fundamental components with detailed overviews of all the new and retained mechanisms in each of these essential gameplay elements in advance of its October 1st release.

It should be noted that many of the latest and greatest features are only available on next-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S), so we’ll be using this edition as our benchmark.
FIFA 22 advanced dribbling and skill moves guide
Dribbling will be dramatically changed in FIFA 22, with players being able to pivot and move faster than ever before. Certain players can also decelerate at a faster rate than others, giving them more control after a complete run.
Depending on how your player is moving when the challenge comes in, players will also be able to ride tackles better than before.
Several skill movements, including FIFA 21’s overpowered Bridge and Directional Nutmegs, have been nerfed. The La Croquette, Elastico, Reverse Elastico, and Scoop Turn will no longer be able to cancel their skill moves.
FIFA 22 all new skill moves
At least five new skill moves and dribbles will be introduced in FIFA 22.
- Four Touch Turn: Hold L2/LT + Flick RS Back + Flick RS Back
- Explosive Sprint: R2/RT when Sprinting
- Skilled Bridge: Hold L2/LT + Double Tap R1/RB
- First Time Spin: Hold L1/LB + R1/RB as the ball comes towards the player first time
- Super Knock On: Double flick RS forward for Super Knock On.
- Scoop Turn Fake: After completing a forward Scoop Turn, hold LS in the opposite direction.
- Manual Dink Dribble Touch: While dribbling, press R3 to conduct a dink touch, which is ideal for avoiding defenders’ legs.
When receiving the ball, certain skill moves can also be performed for the first time.
The skill moves that can be performed the first time include:
- Stepovers
- Body Feints
- Bridge/Directional Nutmeg.
These moves will be more difficult to execute than dribbling alone, and they will not work from driven passes.
FIFA 22 Nerfs and buffs
The following is derived from the FIFA 22 gameplay pitch notes:
- For La Croquetta, Elastico, Reverse Elastico, and Scoop Turn, Skill Move Cancel has been removed.
- Bridge and Directional Nutmeg animation speeds have been slowed.
- Cancellation of Drag Back Spin, Four Touch Turn, and Stepovers is now possible (LT + RT).
- Holding RS backward now activates the Drag to Drag Skill Move.
- The Heel to Heel Skill Move is the most difficult to master.
- Directional Nutmeg 90 degree turns now have new animations.
FIFA 22 Existing skill moves
There are already existing skill movements in addition to the new ones. For those who are unfamiliar, players are given a star rating based on their dribbling abilities.
Every player can perform the 1 Star moves, and practically everyone can perform the 2 Star skills.
They become increasingly complicated from 3 onwards, with only the absolute best ballers in the world capable of pulling off the 5 Star.
