Bill to improve US military aid to Ukraine signed by Biden
In order to expedite the lengthy process of giving Ukraine with military weaponry required to battle Russia, President Joe Biden signed a measure on Monday.
To help the Ukrainian government and people in their battle to save their nation and democracy from Vladimir Putin’s cruel war, Vice President Biden signed a measure into law from the Oval Office, saying, “I am signing a bill that provides another important tool.”
Biden: “The cost of the fight is not cheap, but caving to aggression is even more costly,”
Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022, which Vice President Biden signed, makes it simpler for the United States to lend or lease militarily for allied countries harmed by Russia’s incursion into Ukrainian territory in 2014. Some of the rules for lending or leasing equipment would be loosened under the legislation signed into law by Vice President Biden.
U.S. weaponry and other security aid can be sent more quickly under the new law. Guarantees that the government can replace or compensate the assets will be given to the United States.
On Monday, new legislation was introduced that is reminiscent of the “Lend-Lease Act,” which was used by the United States to fund allies during World War II, including the Soviet Union.
It was announced Friday by the Biden administration that Ukraine will receive a $150 million aid package.
The United States has pledged $3.8 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in late February, making this the ninth security assistance payment.
The $150 million offered on Friday comes from the remaining $250 million in presidential drawdown authority, which authorises the president to remove surplus weapons from U.S. arsenals without legislative permission.
After using up all of his remaining ability to reduce spending, Vice President Biden requested $33 billion from Congress last month. On Friday, he reaffirmed his desire.
According to him, the United States and its allies must keep supplying weapons and ammunition to Ukraine if it is to defeat Russia.
