Epona, Link’s faithful steed from previous Zelda games, returns in Tears of the Kingdom. Our easy-to-follow instructions will lead you directly to her.
If Link didn’t have Epona, would it still be a Zelda game today? Not in our humble opinion, however. The legendary horse made her debut in Ocarina of Time and returns in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, set for release in 2023.
She deserves a place with such legendary equine friends as Roach and Shadowmere. When traveling the perilous, creature-filled fields of Hyrule, she is a reliable companion. Follow these simple instructions to help Link get back together with his trusty companion.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – How to get Epona
When playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you need either the Super Smash Bros. Link Amibo or the Twilight Princess Link Amiibo in order to unlock Epona. If you have an Amiibo, you can call Epona by touching it to the NFC touchpoint on the Right Joy-Con or the Pro Controller.
This won’t be possible right away, though. Be sure you’ve finished the Sky Island Tutorial before continuing. If you follow these steps and make it to Hyrule, you should be able to call Epona to your side.
Can Epona be unlocked in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom without the use of an Amiibo?
Players claim that you may still acquire Epona if you have a save file from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It appears that between Hyrule Ridge and Lookout Landing is where you’ll find Epona if you have the download.
If you want to ride a specific horse, all you have to do is ask the stable owner for permission. It’s easy to guess that Epona is being referred to, and her presence might be requested.
