YouTuber David Dobrik is being sued for $10 million in damages by Jeff Wittek
Following his nearly fatal excavator accident, former Vlog Squad member Jeff Wittek is suing YouTuber David Dobrik for $10 million in damages. In 2020, a stunt involving an excavator David was operating for a YouTube video that went catastrophically wrong caused Jeff to fracture his skull and nearly lose an eye. According to medical professionals, Jeff could have died, and he was left with numerous life-threatening wounds that required surgery. In his YouTube series “Don’t Try This At Home,” Jeff was transparent about his injuries and the healing process. Jeff earlier stated that he didn’t want to show the entire tape because he didn’t want his family to watch it. He also uploaded a brief clip of the stunt’s video.
Corinna Kopf swings on the rope in the brief film before telling David to let her go since he had started spinning too quickly. Then Jeff gets a turn, and as Jeff starts to swing around, David suddenly seems to pick up the pace, sending Jeff flying through the air. He then looks to hit the edge of the steel machine and fall into the water, however, Jeff’s film doesn’t show the full sequence. He is hanging from the rope by one leg as you can see.
Jeff has undergone nine eye surgeries as of June 2022 as a result of the “myriad of injuries” he endured when David allegedly spun the crane at “unsafe speeds.” Now, Jeff is suing David for “general carelessness and willful tort” for $10 million in damages. According to Jeff, David’s actions caused him to miss work and accrue high medical expenses due to the severity of his injuries. Details of the case were obtained by PEOPLE.
Now that Jeff has said it, David and he are no longer pals. Jeff and David appeared to be getting along after the disaster. At Jeff’s request, David actually went to see him in the hospital while dressed as Heath Ledger’s Joker and carrying a nurse’s uniform. But Jeff said that while David was recuperating in the hospital, he began to feel bitter against him.
