WWE apologizes for pre-match Auschwitz image
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) issued an apology today for a promotional film that used a photo of Auschwitz.
The WWE video featured the prison setting and sounds of wrestler Dominik Mysterio posing as an inmate inside.
The WWE claimed in a statement released on Friday, “We had no knowledge of what was depicted. As soon as we learned, it was removed immediately. We apologize for this error.”
YouTube re-watches do not display the visuals. The image depicted the concentration camp’s barbed wire fencing and watchtowers.
Recently, Endeavor, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), revealed that it will be acquiring the WWE. A combination between the two would create a $21 billion powerhouse in the sports and entertainment industries.
