Woman Isolates for 5 Hours After Mid-Flight COVID Positive confirmation
When a Michigan teacher learned she had COVID-19 mid-flight, she willingly self-isolated for five hours in the plane’s toilet.
Marisa Fotieo was sick on her Icelandair travel from Chicago to Reykjavik, Iceland, before Christmas and tested herself for COVID.
“I just took my rapid test and I brought it into the bathroom, and within what felt like two seconds there were two lines (indicating a positive test),” Fotieo said on Today on Wednesday.
To avoid infecting her fellow passengers, Fotieo spent five hours in the plane’s restroom.
“There’s 150 people on the flight, and my biggest fear was giving it to them,” she told NBC News’ Steve Patterson.
“It was a crazy experience,” she continued.
Fotieo posted a video of his suffering on TikTok, which has over 1.4 million views. “Shout out to @Icelandair for my VIP quarantine quarters,” she captioned the video.
Fotieo thanks Icelandair flight attendant Ragnhildur “Rocky” Eirksdóttir for her help.
“She made sure I had everything I needed for the next five hours from food to drinks and constantly checked on me assuring me I would be all right,” Fotieo told NBC News.
As if that wasn’t enough, Eirksdóttir made sure to spread festive happiness to Fotieo while confined at an Icelandic Red Cross hotel.
“She bought me flowers and a little Christmas tree with lights so I could hang it,” Fotieo added. “It was so heartfelt, and she’s just an angel.”
