Will Smith Publicly apologizes to Chris Rock on Instagram
During this year’s Academy Awards live broadcast, Will Smith hit presenter Chris Rock and later apologised in a YouTube video posted on Friday. After Rock made a jibe at Smith’s wife’s short hair, Smith strutted onstage and captivated the world. Afterward, Smith sat back down in the audience and continued to hurl expletives at Rock.
For his main role in King Richard, Smith won the best actor Oscar. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences then barred him from its events for ten years after he resigned from the organisation.
“Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” On Friday, Smith revealed that he had tried to contact Rock and was told that he was not yet ready.
This week, according to reports, Chris Rock made a joke about the slap during a stand-up concert in New Jersey. According to a story, Rock jokingly said, “Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” “I don’t go to the hospital for a papercut.”
Smith had apologised to Rock on Instagram just a few hours after the infamous smack. However, this was his first video message.
“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he said. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”
Smith gasped many times and appeared to be choking back tears as he sat in front of the camera. “Why didn’t you apologize to Chris in your acceptance speech? “I was fogged out by that point,” he answered.
In response to Rock’s quip about his wife’s buzz-cut hair, Smith has stated that he responded in the same way Demi Moore rocked her hairstyle in the movie GI Jane. Hair loss is a problem for Jada Pinkett Smith, who has spoken openly about her battle with alopecia.
“After Jada rolled her eyes, did she tell you to do something?” Smith answered in the video. “I made a choice on my own, from my own experiences, from my history with Chris,” he said. “Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, babe.”
Also, Smith offered his condolences to Rock’s family, including his mother Rose and Tony, a former close friend. Additionally, he expressed his regrets to singer Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, who had just won the best documentary Oscar for his work on Summer of Soul when the iconic slap on his cheek occurred. To steal and destroy Questlove’s moment “It really breaks my heart to have stolen and tarnished your moment,” Smith stated, referring to Questlove. It is not enough to simply say, “I am sorry,”” he continues.
Over the past few months, Smith has indicated that he has revisited the Oscars episode numerous times in an effort to improve himself. He expressed his regret for disappointing others as he ended the video message.
“I know it was confusing, I know it was shocking,” Smith said. “But I promise you, I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world. And, you know, if you hang on, I promise we’ll be able to be friends again.”
