Who is Owen Wilson? who will be SNL’s first host of the new season
This weekend marks the start of the 47th season of Saturday Night Live, which will be hosted by Owen Wilson.
Even though he appeared on Weekend Update in 2016 as Hansel from Zoolander with Ben Stiller, this is the first time the actor has hosted the late-night comedy show.
Wilson admitted on Kevin Nealon’s YouTube series Hiking with Kevin last year that he had never hosted the show before since he is “really nervous with public speaking.”
“I’ve never done any of those commencement addresses or Saturday Night Live just because I get too nervous.” he explained.
With his co-writer Wes Anderson on board, Wilson landed his first major role in 1996’s Bottle Rocket, which went on to become one of Wilson’s most frequent artistic collaborations.
The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Grand Budapest Hotel are just a few of Wilson’s roles in Anderson’s films. Along with that, Anderson’s film The French Dispatch will be released in the fall and will feature him.
As Gil Pender in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, Wilson was nominated for a Golden Globe Award that year. He also received critical acclaim for his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice.
The Internship, Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, and Wedding Crashers are among his “frat pack” comedies. He’s also noted for his work in family comedies like Marley & Me and Night at the Museum.
He recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Disney Plus, Marvel series Loki as Mobius M Mobius.
Musician Kacey Musgraves will perform as SNL’s musical guest alongside country pop sensation Charlie Wilson this week.
A number of this season’s hosts, including Kim Kardashian West, Jason Sudeikis, and Rami Malek, have already been revealed. Musicians such as Halsey, Young Thug, and Brandi Carlile will appear as well.
