WhatsApp is introducing a calls tab for its desktop app in the beta version
People who have trouble connecting to calls over their mobile provider’s network have found that WhatsApp calling has become an indispensable alternative. It functions well even with limited bandwidth, and you have the option of making calls in either audio or video format. People have been begging for desktop support for calls for quite some time now, despite the fact that the capability has only ever been available on mobile devices. It would appear that their supplications are at last being taken into consideration by the chat platform.
In accordance with a recent article published by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp will be adding a “Calls” tab to the beta version of its application for desktop computers. A source claims that users of WhatsApp on the desktop will soon have the ability to view their call history and maybe the possibility to make WhatsApp calls directly from their computer if the company implements a calls tab. Now, we do not know when this feature will be added to the messaging app; however, we are certain that the inclusion of this feature will position it as an appropriate alternative to Google Meet and Zoom for a significant number of users.
HOW MIGHT WHATSAPP DESKTOP CALLING WORK?
According to the post, the Call tab will be positioned on the top-left of the WhatsApp desktop software layout, between the Status and New Chat options. When users select the Calls option, they will be able to look through their own WhatsApp call history, and they will also have the option to make calls directly from the WhatsApp app itself. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that WhatsApp is considering integrating calls into its desktop client.
The messaging app has just launched a valuable calling option called “Call Links.” This function basically allows you to generate a link for a video or audio conversation on WhatsApp and share it with other people who will be joining the call. Even though the functionality is currently only being tested on the desktop app, we hope WhatsApp will consider adding it to the web-based version of their messaging platform as well. Having said that, given that the new feature is still in its testing phase, it is impossible for us to predict whether or not WhatsApp will eventually make it accessible to all of its users.
