WhatsApp is developing a new feature that would let users report status updates
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that will allow users to report status updates on the desktop beta. According to WABetaInfo, the new feature will allow users to report a status update directly from a new menu in the status section. With the new option, users will be able to report any suspicious status updates that may violate the Terms of Service to the moderation team.
The status update, like the reporting messages, will be forwarded to the company for moderation so that they can see if there is a violation. This feature, however, does not compromise end-to-end encryption. Nobody, not even WhatsApp or Meta, can see the content of users’ messages or listen in on their private calls, but it is critical for the company to include a report option in order to keep the platform and its users safe.
According to the report, the ability to report status updates is in the works and will be included in a future update of the WhatsApp Desktop beta. Meanwhile, the messaging platform released a new feature to some beta testers last month that allowed users to see profile photos within group chats on a desktop.
