Brittany Murphy died of pneumonia and anaemia only a few months before her husband, Simon Monjack, died of the same conditions.
Brittany Murphy was a successful, gorgeous, and brilliant actress, and the news of her unexpected and mysterious death at the age of 32 sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood. Rumors about what killed the starlet, who appeared to be in the prime of her career and life, persist to this day.
A new docuseries aims to answer that issue, or at the very least provide more information about her untimely death.
Last week, HBO released the trailer for the two-part HBO Max series, which will premiere on the streaming platform on Thursday.
The film promises to go “beyond the headlines” to investigate the unusual circumstances surrounding actress Brittany Murphy’s death. She died in 2009 after collapsing in her bathtub and going into cardiac arrest. Her cause of death was pneumonia, with iron deficiency anaemia as a contributing component. Her husband, Simon Monjack, died of the same causes five months later in the same Los Angeles home.
Monjack was an accused con guy who kept Murphy away from her friends and loved ones, according to one character in the teaser. According to the New York Post, he was jailed in 2005 on charges of credit card fraud and theft, and in 2006, he was sued for nearly half a million dollars after being evicted from four different homes.
“What Happened, Brittany Murphy?” delves into the numerous rumours and conspiracy theories surrounding her and her husband’s deaths.
“Brittany’s dad was sure someone had done it,” says one character in the trailer.
Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, said in 2013 on “Good Morning America” that he believes his daughter was poisoned.
He stated, “I have a feeling there was a definite murder situation here.”
Murphy’s mother, Sharon Murphy, has angrily denied reports that she shared a bed with Monjack following Murphy’s murder.
The preview also delves into the actor’s misogynistic demands to conform to Hollywood standards.
“She was not a typical pretty girl,” one person says, as the trailer dives into her extreme weight loss and makeover. She was noticeably thinner in films like “8 Mile.”
Archival footage and interviews with people “closest to” Murphy will be featured in the docuseries.
On October 14, “What Happened, Brittany Murphy?” will premiere.
