Watch: Sandra Bullock strarring Trailer for ‘The Unforgivable’ is released

The Bullock-produced remake of a British miniseries, directed by Nora Fingscheidt and starring Viola Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal, will be released in theatres on November 24 and on Netflix on December 10.

The Unforgivable, a Sandra Bullock-led version of Sally Wainwright’s 2009 ITV miniseries Unforgiven, has received its first full trailer from Netflix.

The Oscar-winning actress plays Ruth Slater, a woman freed from jail after serving a term for a horrific crime, in her first film role since starring in another Netflix film, 2018’s disaster thriller Bird Box.

However, re-entering society is tough and hampered by a culture that is more concerned in passing harsh judgement than in forgiving her past. Slater searches for her estranged younger sister, whom she was forced to leave behind, in order to help her achieve salvation.

This search, and whether individuals in Slater’s life believe she is deserving of reconnection, drives most of the two-and-a-half-minute trailer. As Bullock’s character seeks to reintegrate into society with a job after 20 years in prison, she is constantly harassed – through threatening phone calls and even physical violence.

Many people in town saw Slater as irredeemable and “not a victim,” as Viola Davis’ role makes plain. Others, on the other hand, show greater sympathy for the formerly incarcerated lady “who did her time,” as well as a lot of harsh honesty about why her struggle to reconnect with her sister shouldn’t dictate how her life continues.

The film stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Aisling Franciosi, Rob Morgan, Richard Thomas, Linda Emond, and Emma Nelson, and was directed by Nora Fingscheidt and co-written by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz, and Courtenay Miles. Bullock, Veronica Ferres, and Graham King are producing The Unforgivable.

The Unforgivable opens in select U.S. theatres on November 24 and will be available on Netflix on December 10.
