Walmart and Paramount are partnering up to bring you a subscription service
In an effort to compete with Amazon Prime, Walmart and Paramount have joined forces to offer a streaming service. Soon, Walmart Plus members will also receive a free Paramount Plus Essential membership. Furthermore, the press release(opens in a new tab) states that the annual fee for Walmart Plus, which includes the aforementioned services, will remain at $98. Walmart hopes that this will position Walmart Plus as a viable rival to Amazon Prime, which attracts customers with perks like free two-day shipping and a library of streaming TV shows and movies.
After a free week of service, Paramount Plus’s Essential tier will cost you $49.99 annually to maintain access to shows like Halo, Star Trek: Picard, and iCarly, as well as NFL games on CBS Live, live soccer matches including the Champions League, and CBSN’s round-the-clock news coverage. Commercials are included, but you can’t download episodes to watch when you don’t have internet access; for those features, you’ll need to upgrade to Paramount Plus Premium.
In addition to access to Paramount Plus’s streaming content, Walmart Plus members have a number of additional perks. Walmart.com offers free next-day or two-day shipping on all items, no matter how much you spend, and free grocery delivery on orders of $35 or more (subject to some limits). In addition, at more than 14,000 stations across the United States, you’ll receive a discount of 10 cents per gallon on gas purchases.
Walmart Plus is less expensive than Amazon Prime, but Amazon Prime is more feature-rich. For example, Amazon Prime members get a year of Amazon Music, Prime Reading, and unlimited photo storage through Amazon Photos, in addition to gasoline discounts. Amazon Prime costs $41 more than Walmart Plus for a year, totaling $139. As long as the price doesn’t go up, we won’t be complaining about any new perks, and we hope Walmart will find more ways to make its subscription service even more desirable for customers.
