Universal Studios suffers a power outage, 35 people stranded on a roller coaster in Japan
According to the park’s operator, 35 passengers were left stuck on a roller coaster at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka on Friday afternoon after a power loss caused the ride to halt, although no injuries were reported.
Staff rescued passengers trapped on the “Hollywood Dream — The Ride” rollercoaster, which had come to a halt near the highest point on its tracks, according to the park.
The ride, which can accommodate 36 people, is renowned for its rapid descent from a height of around 43 metres.
A number of other attractions were also shut down owing to the power outage, but the rides are being reopened one by one, according to the park.
The outage started at 12:45 p.m., according to Kansai Transmission and Distribution Inc., and affected approximately 3,200 households, largely in the city’s Konohana Ward, where USJ is located.
At 1:06 p.m., power was entirely restored. The reason for the outage is currently being looked into.
