Today Is ‘Mean Girls Day,’ and How Can You Celebrate It This Year?
How October 3rd Became Known as ‘Mean Girls Day’
In a pivotal scene from the classic teen film Mean Girls, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) and Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) interact in math class.
Aaron turned around and inquired of Cady what day it was. Cady recalls in a voiceover, “With Regina’s blessing, I began talking to Aaron more and more.” He asked me what day it was on October 3rd.
The scene then shifts to Aaron turning around in his chair and asking, “What day is it.”
Cady then responds enthusiastically, “It’s October 3rd.”
The conversation is regarded as the beginning of Cady and Aaron’s romance, as well as the end of Regina (Rachel McAdams) and Cady’s friendship.
And with that, October 3rd became known as “Mean Girl’s Day.” Fans have been sharing their love for the iconic film on social media and with their friends for the past 17 years.
How to Celebrate Mean Girls Day
- Put on pink.
Mean Girls Day may not be on a Wednesday this year, but there is no better way to honor the show than by wearing pink. After all, it is Regina George’s favorite color.
- Purchase Something Vintage
Regina stopped Lea Edwards (Alisha Morrison) in her tracks as she walked through the high school corridor to ‘compliment’ her skirt. “I love your skirt. Where did you get it?”
“It was my mom’s in the ’80s” Lea replied. “Vintage, so adorable” Regina replied before insulting the skirt.
Who could forget Regina George’s adorable tartan skirt, which she described as the “ugliest effin skirt” she had ever seen?
Ignore what Regina said and go to a vintage store to channel your inner Lea Edwards. You never know what you’ll come across.
- Stream ‘Mean Girls’ on Netflix.
There is no better way to commemorate Mean Girls than to watch the film and relive all of the show’s most memorable moments.
Relax and say your favorite quotes out loud while watching Mean Girls on Netflix, from “that’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets” to “she doesn’t even go here,”
The sequel to Mean Girls is also available on the global streaming platform, but let’s be honest: nothing beats the original.
- Take advantage of Happy Hour.
To celebrate Mean Girls Day, make some cocktails inspired by June George (Amy Poehler). Remember that Happy Hour is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.! 5. Get ready for the Talent Show
Nobody will ever forget the Plastics’ school talent show routine.
You might think it’s a little early for Christmas songs, but “Jingle Bell Rock.” is always appropriate.
Here’s an idea for your 2021 Halloween costume: dress up as the Plastics for Aaron’s Halloween party.
You can get ideas from Karen’s (Amanda Seyfried) mouse costume, Regina’s Playboy bunny outfit, or Gretchen Wiener’s (Lacey Chabert) classy cat look.
You could also channel Cady and dress up as Dracula’s ex-wife. You have a choice.
- Play the ‘Mean Girls’ Soundtrack
Mean Girls wouldn’t be the same without its classic 2000s-themed soundtrack, which included hits by P!nk, Kelis, Peaches, and Blondie.
As your Mean Girls Day festivities wind down, get the party started by listening to the entire Mean Girls Soundtrack on Spotify right now.
