Title and Release Season of ‘Predator’ Prequel Revealed
There is a brand-new Predator movie coming in summer 2022 to Hulu called Prey, which was announced as part of Disney+ Day festivities. It was previously known as Skulls, a prequel to the franchise that depicts the first hunt of a Predator in the real world.
From a script by Patrick Aison (Kingdom) and directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), Prey’s development was kept under wraps until November 2020. Following the release of Shane Black’s The Predator in 2018, we learned that Prey would not be a sequel to the film.
Amber Midthunder (Legion), Dakota Beavers, and Dane DiLiegro have also been cast as female heroes in the prequel. Beavers and DiLiegro’s roles have not been confirmed. The actor DiLiegro, who has appeared in American Horror Story and Sweet Home as a monster, is a safe bet to play the Predator.
Collider spoke with Prey producers John Davis and John Fox back in July, and Davis said that:
“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force.”
“It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it,” added Fox, though the producers declined to reveal the specific period. As Davi put it at the time, “you can use your imagination. It is… early.”
When John McTiernan and brothers Jim and John Thomas made Predator in 1987, they introduced the world to an alien race that roamed the cosmos in search of prey that could challenge them. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a Predator clash in a Central American rainforest in the original film, which is still regarded as one of the greatest action movies of the 1980s. There have already been four sequels to Predator and two crossovers with the Aliens franchise, with each new entry expanding the creature’s mythos. Prey, on the other hand, promises a fresh take on the Predator franchise and ensures that the new cast and crew have a clean slate to work with.
Prey finished filming in September and will be available on Hulu in the summer of 2022 after post-production. For the first time, Disney has given us a release date for the Predators prequel, so we can expect to see it soon. The official synopsis is as follows:
