Time Magazine: Blackpink named Entertainer of the Year
Time magazine has chosen the Korean girl group Blackpink (Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa) 2022’s “Entertainer of the Year,” cementing the group’s status as international music superstars.
TIME reported on Tuesday, December 6 that the quartet “managed to become the biggest girl group in the world exactly by enabling its members to be solo stars in their own right.”
The magazine highlighted a number of Blackpink’s accomplishments during the year, including the group’s performance of “Pink Venom” at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, the release of “Born Pink” in September, and the beginning of their world tour in October.
Jennie, one of the group’s members, told Time that being a K-pop star is something they do “out of our heart,” “If we consider this in the business way, we wouldn’t be able to do this,” she continued.
The four women, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, were lauded by Time for being “four stars in their own way” due to their “massive visibility” as solo artists, brand ambassadors for high-end fashion labels, and social media icons.
Blackpink will “continue to play its role as a trendsetting icon,” YG Entertainment chairman and CEO Yang Min-suk said in the report.
Blackpink debuted in the August of 2016 with the release of their debut single album, titled “Square Up,” which was released by YG Entertainment. Songs like “Boombayah,” “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” “Kill This Love,” “Shut Down,” and “How You Like That” are among their most well-known works.
The “Born Pink” world tour stops for two nights at the Philippine Arena on March 25 and 26, 2023.
