Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ‘The Princess and the Frog’ will be released in 2024
At a discussion at ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans, Disney finally revealed the new Splash Mountain’s name and projected debut date. Beginning in late 2024, tourists may experience The Princess and the Frog in a new attraction named Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Florida’s Magic Kingdom and California’s Disneyland will both be home to the new attraction.
First announced in 2020, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaces the contentious Song of the South theme Splash Mountain was originally built around. The new ride gives guests with a re-imagining of Princess Tiana’s realm, offering a magical and engaging experience. The ride draws on the history, art, and culture of New Orleans. It will be a musical journey that takes place after the events of the movie, with unique music inspired by the songs from the movie. It follows Princess Tiana, Naveen, and Louis as they prepare to organise an unique Mardi Gras party at Tiana and Naveen’s palace. Along the way, guests will encounter other familiar characters and meet new ones as they trek through the bayou
In order to create the setting of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Walt Disney Imagineers undertook considerable research on the culture and natural surroundings of Louisana. This film documents the group’s study trip and features footage from the tours, museums, and other sites the researchers visited. In order to provide the most accurate reproduction possible for tourists, they were allowed to get up up and personal with exhibits and speak with academics about many aspects of New Orleans culture.
During the panel, Disney also debuted Tiana’s new style developed for the attraction. Tiana’s wardrobe was designed by Ida Muldrow, who looked to 1920s fashions for inspiration. The design team also took great attention while crafting Tiana’s hairdo, seeking to focus “emphasis on the versatility of Black women’s hair and its significance to [their] identity across geographies and generations.”
Charita Carter, executive producer of relevance activations at Walt Disney Imagineering, had this to say about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure:
The book “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” is a tribute to the city of New Orleans. Tiana’s second act, like the musical city that served as inspiration for this attraction, is all about the people coming together to do something truly remarkable. She echoes a universal truth: “If you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way.” And that is a tune everyone can like!
Disney has yet to announce a definite opening date for the attraction. In the meanwhile, The Princess and the Frog is streaming now on Disney+. Take a look at the video documentation of our study abroad experience:
