The Title of Steve McQueen’s Next Film Has Been Revealed
The new film from the filmmaker of ‘Small Axe’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ is based on an original idea.
Oscar-winner Steve McQueen is working on his next feature. According to Deadline, McQueen will write, direct, and produce an original film called Blitz. McQueen is slated to reteam with New Regency, which produced two of his previous features, 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Widows (2018). Lammas Park, McQueen’s own production business, will also produce the picture alongside Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
McQueen made a splash in the film industry when his debut theatrical film, Hunger, won the Camera d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He then went on to build a reputation for himself with 12 Years A Slave, which was nominated for nine Oscars, including Best Director for McQueen, and won three, including Best Picture. Since then, he has worked on a range of movies, documentaries, series, and shorts.

This will be McQueen’s first feature film since Widows. However, since then, he has directed, written, and produced 2020’s Small Axe, a critically acclaimed five-part anthology series for Prime Video about the real-life experiences of London’s West Indian community between 1969 and 1982, starring actors such as Letitia Wright, John Boyega, and Shaun Parkes. He has also co-directed and produced three Amazon Prime Video documentaries: Black Power: A British Story of Resistance, Subnormal: A British Scandal, and Uprising.
McQueen had the following to say about this new film project and collaborating with New Regency: “The team at New Regency have been wonderful partners to me over the years. I’m thrilled to work with Arnon, Yariv, and Michael again and very excited to join forces with Tim and Eric at Working Title Films.”
McQueen is currently keeping story details a secret. Blitz’s narrative, release date, cast, and crew have yet to be confirmed.
