The Passion of the Christ Star Christo Jivkov died at the age of 48
Christo Jivkov, an actor and producer most known for his portrayal as John in Mel Gibson’s 2004 blockbuster The Passion Of The Christ, passed away last night in Los Angeles after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 48.
On February 18, 1975, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Jivkov entered the world. Shortly after completing his studies in film directing at the Bulgarian Film & Theater Academy, he landed the lead role of Giovanni de Medici in Ermanno Olmi’s 2001 blockbuster The Profession of Arms, which went on to win nine awards at the 2002 David di Donatello Awards, including Best Film. That eventually led to a successful career in Italian film and TV.
Jivkov then played John in Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, starring with Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci and earning $612 million worldwide.
